IDUSTRIAL IDEAS

Ideas are finally starting to form a whole as my INDUSTRIAL EVOLUTION book is starting to take shape and compositions are starting to communicate although I still have to gather materials and finalize the imagery and compositions.

PERFECTION

B-R-A-C-K-E-T. In which I had the "b".  We created perfect letters painted in gouache.

WHERE'S ROBIN?

Color Drawing Form, We were given a logo and we had to mess around with Illustrator getting different versions of the logo in grayscale.  Batman should upgrade to carbon fiber.  While doing these revisions I lost some versions that I was pretty happy with and thus I am going to have to break out time machine again...

INDUSTRIAL EVOLUTION

Creating so many mind maps in such a sort amount of time really allowed me to refine my thinking process and come up with a satisfying end result. Most of the images were pathways I followed to the end.  Although that end path started right where Jamie tried to direct us in the first place.  I exhausted my mind with endless topics that seemed to end up nowhere.  Good thing I was able to step back (with the kindness of the labor day break) and start over, with one of the original umbrella topics, Domesticity.  Which finally lead to the idea of factory & industry, a changing line of work in America these days.  Our country was built on it's ability to use its factory as a way of creating goods for consumers while making profit and providing jobs, yet now those jobs which were founded in those factories cease to exist.  The factory is then left, abandoned and ignored, rusting and deteriorating.

Our abstraction in dots has just got more abstract when DAVID WHITE and I collaborated on the visual communication project taking our abstract dot compositions and adding image to them, using all 12 words this time we had to also use the design principles

LARGE LETTER ANATOMY

Keeping in mind the critique from our large letter form drawings we were asked to again do large drawings which amplify the characteristics the the typeface while adding the type anatomy terms we learned earlier that week.  Adding labels and focusing on information design which interacts with the overall composition.  I did so with a little help of press type,  but only after experimenting with hand drawn lettering.  Though I found that it took away from the machined, perfect, look of the type faces I chose (Bodoni & Clarendon).  In Bodoni I played off the thin and thick lines that are seen in the typeface.  While in Clarendon I focused on the overall stability of the letter, to me it seems to resemble a tight rope walker.  Although I feel as if that idea isn't clear without an explanation.  Information wise I used the terms cap height, stem, bracket, baseline, serif, x-height, and ascender.

MIND MAPPED

We were instructed to create a mind map to narrow down umbrella topics (Media & Health) into 20 words describing a future narrative. This is when my mind began to warp.  Going through completely unnecessary topics.  Topics which deserved a mind map of there own.  Through class discussion and critique I was able to focus some interesting points of my all assuming mind maps.  I now must take my new subject of hero's and expanded that into a much more specific mind map of it's own, hopefully branching out into a workable narrative topic
